Some of the important events or things that lead to the Civil War were the election of Abraham Lincoln, The South States Secceding and The Economic differences between the North and the South.
Abraham Lincoln's Election
Lincoln was elected as president in 1860 being the 16th president of the United States. In 1858,Stephen Douglas ran for reelection to the Senate. Republican Abraham Lincoln ran against him. Douglas won the election but the Lincoln-Douglas debates made Lincoln a national figure.
South States Seceding from the Union
The South States Secede from the Union because they did not trust President Lincoln . The first state to secede from the Union was South Carolina and then six more states seceded. They formed the Confederate States of America then they named Jefferson Davis as president of the Confederacy.
Economic Differences between the North and South
The North's ecomony was based on manufacturing while the South's economy was based on plantations and farming. During the Civil War the North and the South had some advantages for fighting the war. The North had a bigger army while the South had better generals.
